Day 5 - Hearing Is Not Enough

Pastor Will said on Sunday, "When we believe God is leading us, what do we do with that?" Are you following God’s guidance and obeying? We are told in James 1:22 that if we are only hearers of the Word and not doers, we are deceiving ourselves. God will never contradict Himself and will only speak in line with the Word. If what we are hearing lines up with the Word, we can follow God’s direction and obey. 

Discernment and obedience go hand-in-hand. We shouldn’t blindly accept every impression or spiritual claim but we also shouldn’t ask questions to avoid obeying what Scripture has already made clear. Has God made something clear through Scripture that you understand but have struggled to put into practice? How does knowing that God is truthful and faithful give you confidence to follow His direction, even when obedience is difficult?
