Day 3 - Trade Your Heavy Burdens
In the Old Testament, there were many Jewish laws and restrictions preventing work on the Sabbath. The laws consisted of don’t do ordinary work (Exodus 20:10, 31:14-15, 35:2, Leviticus 23:3), don’t require your household, servants, foreigners, or animals to work (Exodus 20:10, Deuteronomy 5:14), don’t go out to gather food (Exodus 16:26-30). And these are just a few that Pastor Will named. There is no possible way for us to stick to those laws and that is not what Jesus intended. He invites us to come to Him and lay our burdens at His feet. We don’t need to carry the weight that Jesus already took off our back. He desires us to hand over our heavy laden burdens and take up His yoke. He says, “learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28 ESV). The great thing about Jesus is His yoke is far better than any burden we choose to keep carrying.
What burden are you carrying today that you can give to Jesus? Can you trade your burden for His peace and rest?
