Day 2 - Bearing the Weight

Pastor Will dug into the meaning of the Hebrew word for take which is nasa (pronounced “naw-saw”). Nasa is defined as to lift, to carry, to bear, to take up. Inputing this definition into Exodus 20:7 (ESV) says, “You shall not [lift, carry, bear, or take up] the name of the Lord your God in vain…” This bears more weight to it than simply saying “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” As Pastor Will mentioned on Sunday, there is more to this commandment than using God’s name in curses. 

What does it mean to carry God’s name? God calls us to identify ourselves with Him - we speak about Him, we represent Him to others. This line can become dangerous though when we attach His holy name to something false, self-serving, or originating from ourselves.
